SANDY BEACHES FROM THE OREGON COAST

The Oregon Central Coast is viewed in this image as the pacific ocean crashes wave after wave onto the sandy beaches of the Central Coast with a few sea gulls looking for a meal that might wash ashore. The Oregon Coast is divided into three regions depending on their geology. The North, Central and South Coast. The North Coast begins near the Columbia River and extends south to Cascade Head and has longer stretches of beaches. The Central Coast goes from Cascade Head south to Reedsport. It is similar to the North Coast but, has fewer sandy beaches and more sea cliffs and terraces. The South Coast is from Reedsport south to the California border in which it is more mountainous do to tectonic uplift. Most of the South Coast is made up of sea cliffs and beaches. Western redcedar and sitka spruce give way to the coast redwoods in the South Coast landscape. (520-11)
