We had about 2-3 inches of snow overnight, so I decided to head out before the crack of dawn to see what I could see. Was out for about 3.5 hours this morning and had seen a lot of coyote tracks in the area and was hoping that I would get a glimpse of one.
Earlier in the morning I ran into a gentleman and asked him if he had seen anything. He replied "only some coyote tracks" and that he had never seen a coyote here. I have seen them but, they were always too far off to photograph or it was too dark.
Nearing the end of the path, this part of the landscape opens up. I looked out onto the prairie and noticed a large object standing motionless, it was obscured by the grasses and plants and thought that it might just be a coyote. After a few seconds, it moved slightly and confirmed what I thought, it sure was a coyote. He stood motionless, watching and listening for any movement or sound beneath the grasses. Then up in the air he went coming down pouncing on its prey. I watched and photographed the coyote for about 15 minutes before he eventually moved further away out of site. I don't believe he ever noticed me there watching and photographing. He sure did have a beautiful coat.
I was excited that I was able to get some photographs of the coyote here and glad that I came out despite the gloomy weather. Turned out to be not so gloomy of a day. (622-435)
